Looking for a way to purify the air in your home? Adding plants to your home won’t only add a pop of color, but will naturally purify the air. Introducing plants to your home now will decrease the chances of you and your family from getting sick during the cold and flu season. Bring any of the following easy to care for plants into your house and start breathing cleaner and fresher air.
Most commonly known for the liquid gel found inside used to soothe burns and cuts, the Aloe plant also removes pollutants from your home and pollutants found in various cleaning products. Specifically, it removes formaldehyde and when there is an excessive amount of chemicals in the air, the Aloe plant will begin to get brown spots on it. Fairly easy to grow, it does best in areas with a lot of sun.
This plant is great for rooms with 10 or 12 foot ceilings as it can grow to be 12 feet tall! It will do best in full sun or bright light and will remove benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene from the air in your home.
If you want to add some flowers among your house plants, the Peace Lily is a great option as it flowers in the summer. Not only is it easy to grow, but it will remove ammonia, benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene. Keep it in shady locations and be careful to not over-water.
The Snake plant removes benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene and xylene. This plant will absorb carbon dioxide and unlike most other plants it will release oxygen at night. If you’re looking for a good plant for your bedroom or a dark bathroom, this plant will work best because it requires very little light. For those who don’t have a green thumb, the Snake plant is extremely hard to kill and rarely needs to be watered.
Perhaps one of the easiest house plants to grow the spider plant fights off the following pollutants; benzene, formaldehyde, carbon monoxide and xylene. It grows best in bright indirect sun and should be watered with room temperature water and allow the soil to dry between watering.
