The best way to spend Labor Day weekend is in Pittsburgh – specifically on the North Side! From interactive museums to outdoor activities there is something fun that everyone in your family will enjoy.
For all of the sports fans, the Pittsburgh Pirates will be playing all weekend at PNC Park. You can enjoy a fun day of baseball while taking in the beautiful view of the city.
If you’re looking to get your family active during the weekend, the North Side is just the right place for you. The six mile Riverwalk is the perfect place to bike as it offers views of downtown, both PNC Park and Heinz Field and areas surrounded by trees. You can even get out on the Ohio River in a kayak. Don’t have one? No worries, located under the 6th Street Bridge you can rent a one or two person kayak!
Are you looking to relax but also enjoy the outdoors? Allegheny Commons West Park offers shade, monuments, a playground and even Lake Elizabeth! This park is ideal for a picnic and calm day of relaxation. It’s also dog friendly so feel free to bring your four-legged family member along for the trip!
Randyland also offers a colorful solitude your whole family is bound to appreciate. Located in the heart of the Mexican War Streets, you can experience the fun, free art open to the public and walk away inspired.
Take advantage of the many museums on the North Side, great for all ages! The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Science Center are perfect for families with young children. Don’t worry, for those with teenagers you can hit up the Andy Warhol museum or the interactive Mattress Factory.
Use this weekend as an opportunity to head to the National Aviary on Pittsburgh’s North Side. From a butterfly garden to Bald Eagles, your family will enjoy looking at and learning about some of the world’s most exotic birds.
