Let’s be honest, no one enjoys doing laundry. Unfortunately, it is something we spend far too much of our time doing. Especially if you have a big family, you can be doing one load of laundry every day! That is a lot of time spent in your laundry room. To make this household chore less like work and more enjoyable, consider these simple laundry room updates.
Make it a happy place – To make this ever time consuming task more pleasant, make your laundry room appealing and happy. The walls are a great place to start! Pick out some fun wallpaper, stencil or paint. When picking out the design of the walls, make sure it is energizing! You want your laundry room to boost your energy while doing laundry. Once you’ve added a much needed change to the walls, hang up a framed poster or add some family photos to cozy up the room.
If you’re fortunate enough to have a large laundry room, create a little reading nook somewhere. Get a comfy chair and a nightstand that shelves your favorite books and magazines. Cozying up with a good book will make doing laundry much more bearable.
Storage – Most laundry rooms tend to be small and tight on space. Cabinets or shelving is a must for this room in the house. You want to make sure your detergent and fabric softener has a place to sit other than on the floor. If you’re on a tight budget you can find shelving or cabinets at a yard sale or a thrift store.
Rid of clutter – Instead of tripping over your drying rack or using doorknobs and chairs to dry clothes, consider mounting a rack on the wall. This can easily be done by mounting your portable drying rack on the wall or making your own. Even a long enough shower rod can do the trick. You can also hang up hooks on the wall to let clothes dry – Command hooks work great and are budget friendly.
Get rid of that big ironing board and install a wall mounted ironing board. This will save you room on storage and avoid having it tip over while folded up like it does from time to time.
Washer and Dryer touch up – As your appliances age, it is only natural for them to show their age with rust and other signs of use. With a small can of Rust-Oleum you can paint over any rusting edges and other scuff marks. This will make a major difference to your laundry room!
Back of the door – A laundry room is also a common place to store cleaning supplies. Instead of cluttering your laundry storage, consider using the back of the laundry room door. This is a great hack – one that is sure to make your friends jealous. Purchase an over the door pocket shoe hanger and instead of putting shoes in it, store all of your cleaning supplies in it! No more rummaging around in a cupboard for cleaning supplies for you!
With these great update ideas, your laundry room will be a place you WANT to be. Happy folding!
