It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Although, all this snow might not make you think so, Pittsburgh really is beautiful during winter and there are some great activities to do during these cold months.
Get outside – Ice skating at the PPG Place is a great way to enjoy the cold weather. The physical exercise is not only healthy for you, but the physical movement will get your blood pumping and keep you warm. From November 20 to February 28 you can ice skate all you want. For the months of November and December the rink is open Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to midnight and on Sunday noon to 8 p.m. The hours for the months of January and February are; Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday noon to 8 p.m.
Sport Black and Gold – Nothing makes the cold weather better than cheering on a Pittsburgh team. There are plenty of Steelers and Penguins’ games to go to these winter months. Break out your black and gold and head to a game. There are various apps available on your smart phone to find cheaper tickets. If you’re heading to a Steelers’ game, be sure to bundle up, Heinz Field can be very cold during the winter months.
See a show – The winter months is a great time to experience theatrical performances in the city. In December, experience the Nutcracker ballet performed at the Benedum Center from December 4 through the 27. Travel to the Land of Oz January 5 through 10 and experience The Wizard of Oz live at Heinz Hall. In February you can see the amazing performance of the Blue Man Group at Heinz Hall from February 23 through 28. The Pittsburgh Public Theatre will be performing Guys and Dolls from January 28 to February 28.
Dance away the winter blues – Couples that know how to dance have been greatly decreasing over the years. Pick out your favorite style of dance and learn the proper steps! Pittsburgh has several different companies that offer dance classes for adults. Learn the waltz, salsa or foxtrot and impress your family and friends at your next party.
Jump around – SkyZone Trampoline Park is a great place to take the kids. This is an ingenious way to get your kids to burn extra energy they get around the holidays. SkyZone also offers special days and times for specific age groups so both toddlers and teenagers can enjoy the trampoline park separately. Open Tuesday through Sunday this is a great place to spend snowy and cold days.
Enjoy the snow – Snow tubing at Boyce Park gives you a great opportunity to enjoy the snow. At an affordable price, you and your kids can enjoy a day or night of snow tubing. With six different lanes you won’t be waiting in line for too long. Don’t worry about having to walk back up the hill after each ride – there are lifts that will pull you and your tube up the hill! The park is open Monday through Friday 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday the ours are 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
